Welcome to the Girls Rock Bloomington Showcase. Thank you so much for coming. I'm Amy Olsner. I'm the
director of Girls Rock Bloomington. And we're so glad you could join us this evening in celebrating
these amazing rock stars down here. At the beginning of the week, many of them had not played their
instrument ever before. Some of them had played their instrument, but were learning new skills. And
through a lot of hard work, creativity, and cooperation, they learned
their new stuff, they formed their bands with each other, they wrote original songs with the support
of their band coaches, and they're now ready to perform these debut songs for you tonight. So let's
give them a huge round of applause for being so brave to share their music with you. I wanted to mention
that we got to make merch with the campers, so check that out after.
We also have these awesome new shirts, and we made really cool camp posters with all the band logos.
And for family members of campers, we have baseball cards of your camper. So make sure to check that
out at the merch table. And thanks to Kristin and Kerry and Deb for putting those together. Before we
begin, I need to thank a lot of people, because so many people and organizations go into helping our camp run.
So thank you so much to Bad Knees who printed our shirts and did the screen printing workshop. And we've
got the Community Kitchen who they've been donating snacks to us from the very first year. They're amazing.
Thank you to the Bloomington Arts Commission and then the Indiana Arts Commission for supporting our
camp this year. Thank you to Rachel Gressley at Hideout Press who designed our camp t-shirts.
Better Distractions, who helped promote this year's showcase. Sweet Hairdo, who did the campers' hair
that you'll get to see this evening. IU Audiology Department conducted free hearing screenings at camp
and talked about the importance of protecting your ears as a rock star. Two Sticks Bakery, Bloomington
Bagel Company, self-titled Vegetarian Kitchen, all donated food for volunteers.
Opscotch Coffee donated coffee to us and they've been donating to us from the very beginning in 2019
and are amazing supporters, so thank you everyone. Anna Powell Denton took press photos of the kids.

Thank you to WFHB Youth Radio for recording the performance and they did awesome interviews with the

For hosting us, they are donating their space and tech services. Everything is for free. It's incredibly
generous. They even supplied pizza for us. And Clayton is running Sound. So thank you, Clayton.
Thank you, everyone at Buzz Code. Another huge thank you to the IU Arts and Humanities Council, because
they host us for free in their building every year. They give us food. They give us camp supplies.
They help us with all of our needs, and they're just the most generous, lovely team ever, so huge thank
you to them. This is the first year at camp we've had three amazing assistant directors, Kristen Thompson,
Mal Benoit, and Mal Babcock. They helped so much. We also have our showcase stage managers, Carrie Albright
and Kathleen Paquette. Thank you to them.
Thank you to our Amps program. That's our counselor and training program and they did so much to help
out this week and they even found the time to write their own song that they'll be performing later.
Shout out to Tess, Leah, Sagan, Natasha, and Lark.
The biggest thank you, because the only way this camp works is that a lot of very generous, wonderful
local artists and people who like to work with kids and just cool people volunteer with us every year.
They take off work, they come work for free, and they work really, really hard. And these are our volunteers
and they keep camp running, so big thank you to them. All right, I'm almost done talking.
So one other thing, I just wanted to share some very exciting news for the first time publicly, which
is that Girls Rock Bloomington is the recipient of a big grant through the Lilly Arts Foundation, and
we are going to be moving into our own building this year. Yay! So we can't wait to spend time with
you all there. Please keep an eye out for that. We're gonna have a recording studio and practice spaces.
and we're super pumped to gather together there as well. All right, so without further ado, I would

all these beautiful faces here. Kathleen, I have been a volunteer with Girls Mark Bloomington, our very
first camp in 2019. And Amy said a little bit about our amazing crew of volunteers, but just from a
volunteer's perspective.
Being involved in Girls Rock is like one of the lights of my life. I grew up, I came up in a really
male dominated hardcore scene on the East Coast and I sort of had to fight my way into playing music
and being able to be in this community where everyone just comes here specifically to be supportive
and encouraging and creative and vulnerable.
is just a really, really magical experience. So not only is it amazing for the kids, but it's amazing
for the adults who are involved as well. We get to build the world that we want to see in the future,
which is so awesome to be a part of. So yeah, as we expand in the future, there are always volunteer
opportunities, not just for our summer camp, but for our year-round programming. So yeah, keep in touch
with us via social media and our website, our volunteer.
Application form is always up there. And yeah, get involved. It's a really magical thing to be a part
of. And speaking of magical things that I get to be a part of, I have the great honor of introducing

Angel Eye. So up next you're going to hear our AMPS band. AMPS stands for Adolescent Music Program Support.
And these are former campers who join us as counselors in training. They help out in the instrument
classes, and they help coach the band. And then they also find time in the middle of the day to practice
their own song and write it themselves.
And they also made a really cool camp scrapbook that, if you didn't see it yet, you should check it
out after the show. It's outside in the inner lobby on a table, and they collaged it all together and
did it all themselves, totally self-directed. So it's been a real pleasure to have them with us, and
we're really glad they like to hang out with us still. All right.

Some of you might know us because we play around town, but I'll introduce us anyways. I'm Tess. I'm
vocalist and bassist. That's Sagan on guitar. We also got Leah on the guitar. And we have Natasha on

This is our first year being Amps, which is pretty cool, because we, not to get sentimental or anything,
we've been here, well, two of us have been here since the beginning. Sagan and Natasha have both been
here since 2019, so this is our first year as Amps. We're very proud to have you listen to our song
